In reality, this new business, Cliffy’s Oilfield Transport Ltd. would not be possible without the information and funding provided to us through RCDC (Community Futures Lac La Biche).
After 15 years of working in the oilfield trucking industry, we decided to take on a new challenge. Wanting to work for ourselves and a need to work for a company that cares about the equipment and product being hauled, we started inquiring. Start-up costs including equipment, insurance, and registration was adding up to an amount that was personally impossible, and the bank wanted a long and costly list of requirements that needed personal funding.
A local businessman we spoke to, Billy Taha, suggested Community Futures. We inquired immediately and began the application process. Within 30 days, RCDC provided us with everything we needed for funding a Kenworth Winch Tractor, renting a low bed trailer and starting our own business.
Almost 2 years (in October) later, and Cliffy’s Oilfield Transport is doing great business. We employ 3 people, and serve 30 clients across Alberta. We haul Oilfield rental equipment, small equipment, and move oil rigs with other local business owners. We have expanded to include our own trailer and a 1 ton Pilot truck that works well in conjunction with our business. We can and will expand based on the needs and changing industry of this thriving community, and with RCDC behind us, anything is possible.
Our experience with RCDC has always been positive, quick and painless. The staff is generous and perceptive to what a new company needs and requires. I will always recommend RCDC for any new business.
